“What oxygen is to the lungs, such is hope to the meaning of life”
My name is Meghan Miller and I am a proud Pediatric Registered Respiratory Therapist at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC. I am a part of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) core team. When I first created this blog I was just beginning my Respiratory Therapy Program at Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. I am continuing my blogs to share all of my experiences to come as a new professional in the field!
I am a East Carolina University Alumni with a major in Public Health. Throughout my schooling I worked for a training company called eParamus for my fourth consecutive year. I've had the opportunity to learn how to create and measure effective training programs and I hope to apply my knowledge to the health field in the future. Through my clinical experience I saw there is always a great need for patient education and potential for the future. I still currently work for eParamus while I am applying to RRT jobs.
My interest in respiratory therapy came about after having my left transaxillary first rib resection and scalenectomy surgery in July 2013 due to being diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Post surgery as part of my recovery, I went through oxygen therapy and breathing rehab, which sparked my infatuation with respiratory therapy. I always knew I wanted to pursue a profession where I can touch people's lives everyday so Respiratory Therapy seemed to be a perfect fit. After learning more about the field I decided to apply to the program to chase my dream of being a Registered Respiratory Therapist and I could not be more excited and determined!
